Oh, Me! Oh,My! Group forming to ‘fight’ “Big Businuess”

Posted by Simon Lameth on November 26, 2005

A new 'economic blog' has been started by Weapons Shop Owner Jamie Bergman. It's second post has already turned it from an economic blog to a Anshe Chung-hating group. Within the post Bergman goes on to say that Anshe's company is an "Titan" and an "corrupt", "unethical corporate entity". Post from http://sleconomyblog.blogspot.com/ as follows.

What is Jamie Working On? Hello, I'm glad to meet you. Hopefully, we know each other from In-World. If we don't, let me start by telling you a little about myself. In world, I run a successful weapons shop named Bergmans Bargains - its a discount store in the Sim of Shepherd. Stop by sometime to see capitalism at its finest. I am very involved in the SecondLife community where I am the leading in-world economist. Everyday, I peruse pages and pages of forum and SL economic data so that I can get a handle on what is going on around me. I consult with people starting new businesses. I speak at various SL events on economic topics. In short, I am your SL economic one-stop shop.So what am I working on right now? Many things. Here is my shortlist:

I'm writing a biography about Anshe Chung, SL capitalist extraordiaire with the help of many "oldbie" players. Through researching the forums, auction data, interviews with players, and SL publications, I am putting together a look at the most successful (to date) in-world capitalist. Though you may not be a fan of economic stories, I assure you this one has more action than Independence Day and more drama than the Osama Bin Laden story. You won't want to miss it.

Updating My Store. I always want to keep new products coming in and taking on new designers to make my store the best place for weapons. We're currently expanding our scope and will soon be offering many non-weapon merchandise lines.

Blogging! Nuff said. Combating SL Socialist Forces. SL is a place where socialists have a strong foothold. It is important to fight them and preserve the free market. Not only is the free market vital, it is morally correct - why should we, the player base, support projects and initiatives that cannot stand on their own? That is most unfair and not in keeping with the freedoms that we all hold so dear.

Combating SL Corporate Titans. Its true, AnsheCorp is large. Its also the most corrupt organization in SL. I am currently setting up a group to fight large, unethical corporate entities. If you are interested in helping, please IM me in world or drop me a line at JamieBergman2005@hotmail.com. Together, we can hold corporations accountable for their actions.
Researching Land Extortionists. Its come to my attention that Lazarus Divine is SL's most infamous extortionist. At this stage, I am researching the problem to see what can (and should) be done.

Well, thats my shortlist as of this time. Its enough to keep any girl busy and out of the dating pool (sigh).
I look forward to embarking on this blogging venture with you, and hope you will keep checking back to see what I'm up to.

The drama that is Ginko

Posted by Simon Lameth on November 22, 2005

After just a few days, Nicholas Portocarrero, Ginko CEO, Announced on the Second Life Forums today that he would no longer read any posts that related to the "Ginko is a ponzi scam" post posted by Anshe Chung last week.

I have more to do than read page after page of: "ginko is a ponzi/no it's not/it may be/so what/anshe is the devil/and a whore". I will no longer be reading these threads, so let me make this final post.- I think the ad hominem attacks directed against Anshe are stupid.- While Anshe might have personal reasons to attack Ginko, I believe her fear is honest.- While her threat worried me at first, after she actually told me how she intended to do crush Ginko, all I can say is "Go ahead". You'll most likely go bankrupt before I do.That being said:- Please stop calling my venture a ponzi. - At least do so less histericaly.
What will not happen:
- I will not declare bankrupcy unless someone offers to pay back investors in full (which I definitely encourage people to do!)
OR if the bank actually fails, be it from lack of liquidity or investment failure.- I will not release personal OR business information. At all. Ever. Stop asking.

Ginko Financial to Close?

Posted by Simon Lameth on November 19, 2005

If you have been watching the Second Life Forums you probally know about the talks that Ginko Financial is soon going to crash. People will lose their Lindens, Ect. Anshe Chung, Owner of ANSHECHUNG Land Management started a thread on the official boards saying:

After more than 10 pages on this thread and several posts from the Ginko owner, does anyone actually have any clue where those 16 mio L$ went that Nicholas took from people and cashed out?I hate to say it, but my initial fears only solidify. This whole thing looks like one black hole where money disappears in. One big Ponzi scheme bubble growing and growing until enough people realize what it is and the whole thing burst. Your money gone, forever, minus 100% interest :-(Now I have to say, I have one vested interest that this thing better ends sooner than later. It is the same vested interest anyone should have who is invested in the Second Life economy, directly or indirectly. One Ponzi scheme of this magnitute destroys one incredible amount of value and eventually also trust in the Second Life economy. Maybe 20 mio? 50 mio? 100 mio? 1 billion? The bigger this bubble grows, the bigger the crash will be when people realize they can never get their money back. The result will be very bad press for Second Life and Linden Lab and many piss off people calling for Philip to "just create some Linden$". Maybe he will have to give in and we all pay for it with inflation, removal of stipends or higher tier fee. In any case: what is bad for SL economy is also bad for the community! And, surprise surprise, Anshe Chung is also part of this community. So, Nicholas, where are those 16 mio L$? How much did you invest in what? What revenue have you generate sofar? Can you proove it to us, or at least to Linden Lab? You better answer us and give us one detailed account ASAP instead of insult our intelligence with silly "I don't want mamma look across my shoulder" phrases. I warn you. I am not going watch some crook take whole SL economy hijack and scam the newbies. You better show us the whereabouts of every single L$ you took or I will end this. It might cost me millions, but I don't care. This kinda scam goes so 100% against every sense of morality in my bones that I forget my business, forget my money, forget the PR and just hunt you down. Where is that money?

In the Ginko Forums (http://www.ginkofinancial.com) Sneak Dulce, A Ginko Staff member, said

Looking at the registered users, it seems that Ginko has had a jump in the new accounts area anyway.

The Second Life Times had a crew at Ginko for most of the day, but were unable to contact staff members. (Sneak Dulce was online and gave us the same statement above)

Updated Community Standards follow after Attack, Ginko Financial in Trouble?

Posted by Simon Lameth on November 1, 2005

Following the W-hat's self-spawning photo "balls of doom" Linden has released a modified Community Sandards with the latest update, it reads:

Global Attacks
Objects, scripts, or actions which broadly interfere with or disrupt the Second Life community, the Second Life servers or other systems related to Second Life will not be tolerated in any form. We will hold you responsible for any actions you take, or that are taken by objects or scripts that belong to you. Sandboxes are available for testing objects and scripts that have components that may be unmanageable or whose behavior you may not be able to predict. If you chose to use a script that substantially disrupts the operation of Second Life, disciplinary actions will result in a minimum two-week suspension, the possible loss of in-world inventory, and a review of your account for probable expulsionfrom Second Life.

Secondly, it seems that the financial company Ginko Financial is in for some rough times. Read the article at the Second Life Herald.
