Second Life Times Newsmakers 2006
Posted by Simon Lameth on December 31, 2006
Every year the Second Life Times awards the avatars that made a difference in Second Life. Here now, are the Newsmakers of 2006:
- 3rd Place: You!
It may sound a little cheesy, and we have no way of putting a picture of every avatar on this page, but You are the Second Life Times Newsmaker #3 of 2006! Why? You caused more than 2,000,000 users, that caused you to overwhelm the asset server countless times. Congratulations!
- 2nd Place: The Novus Ordo Imperialis
The editorial we wrote on the Ordo was the and still is one of the top read (meaning clicked on) stories of 2006. Just under a month after it was written, the group disbanded. Could the two be connected? Who knows.
- 1st Place: Big Business!
Because all the companies with a presence in SL don’t get enough awards as it is, We here at the Second Life Times feel that Sony, Reuters, Scion, C|Net, Nissan, The BBC, Sun Microsystems, American Apparel, IBM, W Hotels, Crayon, and many more deserve the award! The C.E.O.s or Presidents of these companies can contact us and we’ll send them a nice little graphic they can put on their websites.
But Wait! There’s more!
SL Times Trainwreck Idea 2006 Award: Mark Barret of SLStats.com

Congrats to Mark! He wins the coveted Trainwrecky award!
This award is to the most horrible, poorly thought out and executed plan of all of 2006. This award is presented to Mark Barret of SLStats, the website gave out free wristwatches that uploaded all the information about who you’ve stood near in-game and for how long, and didn’t protect this information from being viewed by anyone (Well, they DID set up an non-working Opt-Out box).
SL Times Secret Evil Plan Award 2006: Linden Labs + Rasing Simulator Prices.

Two of the Lindens are caught trying to sneak information about sim price hikes to Big Business and land barrons.
Linden Labs needs to win one of our Newsmakers awards! And they get the Secret Evil Plan award. Their secret evil plan was to raise the price of private islands (Mabye to 1 billion, million, fafillion, shabolubalu million illion yillion yen? *Pinky to mouth*) and not tell anyone about it until it was too late. Then, they were busted by the Herald, and quickly organized a Super Big Blowout Sale of the old Class 5 servers.
So, that’s it for 2006! Stay tuned to The Second Life Times in 2007. We’ll have some predictions for 2007 up sometime Monday or Tuesday. Have a safe New Years!

Don’t get your hopes up. The Ordo closed under the understanding that Second Life militaries are pointless.
