Second Life Sky Navy — Flying High And Large

This is part 2 of our look into the Military world of Second Life. Look for Links to other featured articles at the bottom of this article.
The Second Life Sky Navy is a weird type of romance. Imagine a trio if you will, of a guy, his car, and his girlfriend. Everyone knows that cars have needs – Everyone. They need their muffler fixed. The right type of fuel. They need to be taken out and driven and loved and let free every so often. So replace the car with a flying battleship that is hybrid with an aircraft carrier, keep the girlfriend and give her combat boots, and place everyone in the middle of the Sim of Endless Love. NOW you have something remotely close to the Second Life Sky Navy.
The Second Life Sky Navy, also known as the SLSN, started out with Steve319’s passion for building warships. Steve319 and Penny Cao both lead the SLSN. They originally started by building ships in the Sandboxes, looking for competition, and seeing if they would be fired upon. Then, the group sat up a small camp at Bondi Beach. Of course, more cars, or ships, in this matter, always require more garages. And so, the small base quickly expanded to consume half of that sim. During the residence there, they entered into combat with a group called the ZI, or Zeridium Army. The Zeridium Army featured more members than the SLSN, but the Sky Navy fought gallantly, even after their first fleet flagship was reportedly stolen and sold to the ZI. Yet, the SLSN survived, and is stronger than ever. They recently moved to the sim of Endless love, where they own the entire sim. Their goal is to protect the sims of Ohara, which is the region Endless Love is in, as well as to become one of the best militaries in SL. They have opened up divisions in infantry and air force to further meet their needs.
The SLSN enjoys an alliance with the Alliance Navy, and participates in STABLE as well as MOSCOW negotiations. STABLE is the treaty through which the Alliance Navy is seeking to improve the SLSALT through open meetings with interested militia. MOSCOW, previously called ANSUCKS, was the Merczateer’s similar treaty.
Despite being a smaller militia member-wise, and roughly a year old, the SLSN has already displayed its combat effectiveness against today’s players. In a joint effort with the Alliance Navy, the SLSN drew in enemy fire in preparation for the Alliance Navy to begin Operation Crucifix. Operation Crucifix was a 36+ hour-long assault on the Merczateers’ bases. Note: Some people have stated 38 or more hours. While this may be true, no one is in denial that it was at least 36 hours long.
Steve was nice enough to take me on a tour of his base one morning. I was able to see several of the constructions there and take note on the area and its combat capabilities. Endless Love is sat up to essentially what to me, felt was based off of Vetnam-era design. It features mainly open land without limits, a small firebases that can easily oversee all that ground, some cliffs, and a few better defended main structures. The scenery is actually rather enjoyable, and enjoys what appears to be a well planned defense.
The SLSN flagship is the ‘Ares’, a medium sized fleet vessel similar to the Lj-Darkwolf in size. A medium sized vessel is one that cannot be linked as one object because it is too large for the SL link limits. They are in the process of producing similar craft, like the Pegassus and Titan, and are quite capable of building other forms of weaponry. Ares itself sports 16 dual barreled turrets and two Quad Barrel Artillery turrets, admist other weapon capabilities. They have a small member base with approximately fifty people in their group, and they are growing. Their leadership appears to be well-tempered and only time will tell what this group can establish.
If you are interested in contacting or joining the Second Life Sky Navy, Steve319 Cao and Penny Cao are both open for messaging.

Another excellent article Areth. I have only been to the SLSN base once, and didn’t explore the whole place at that time, but I’ll go back some time and see what it’s like. I also have a passion for building vehicles, and in fact have some prototypes for Sparta that I never put into production, due to a change in my tastes, or I just got bored with it. I would gladly allow the SLSN to use Sparta’s prototype ships and aircraft, if they so wish. AN has helped the SLSN get on their feet, perhaps Sparta can chip in as well.

As of May 9th, the SLSN now have new, very well made uniforms, several new standard issue firearms, new aircraft with multiple weapon systems, and a new base layout that is a vast improvement. The SLSN rightfully are a professional military group now.

Im glad the slsn is seen as a professional army now when i was in the slsn as a commander i strived to help them get there and i am most certainly glad they are , because they are now more a challanage to everyone else and it makes everything alot more fun congradulations Steve and penny cao and the slsn as a whole

At first when the first time i meet slsn at badnirik i was convince they where just your run of the mill greifers. They orbited and caged me and over i didn’t find that hard to beat. When i joined up with Alliance Navy and i went out of the way to try and get to know them better. I was wrong for sure. They treated me with rescept and even aided me with training. I can see why the admirals have tooken a shine to them. There doing much better then Merczs is.

I have just read it and are thoroughly impressed. Endless Love has just became groupless. SLSN are now moving SIMS and soon will be part of a new continent. We would be delighted for another article at our new base.

My freind Mahfouz, may I remind you that it was YOUR men who are attacking our base in tails with phantom bombs and portals and phantom bullets. this is after AN agreed not to attack untikl base was built. Aslo Mr Elide is now on your side! he is SLSN. suck on that!

Suck on what? I would like to point out that these comment sections are for comments to the article (wow it took me all of 5 seconds being here to realize that) and not a place to say “sorry i was aiming for so and so.”
If you really meant the appology, you would do it in person with Areth. When someone appologises in a public setting, they look for the sympathy of the public. *cough*paris hilton*cough cough*
please keep these comment blocks as comment blocks related to the article, not flame war threads or places to leave messages, to quote one from another thread (Q and A: What would you ask an SL military)
“Hi Jim. Photos i received. Thanks”
that is way too random, even more so than ads in the comments. I’ve read that terrorist cells like to use sites to communicate and make them more unlikely to be traced or discovered.

and almost a year later the SLSN grew to some sense, they finally released themselves of the AN’s control over their group. The AN deleted their base as a response and from that moment forward the slsn started an alliance with the Merczateers and later the Ordo Imperialis. Mercz/Ordo’s provided them with high quality gear and technology. Guess what? they didn’t even charged them for it like the AN used to do for every single rifle.
AN only used SLSN to earn money to pay for their sim wich they lost several times after SLSN left them as allies.
April 5, 2008 at 3:12 pm
…And half a year after that someone hacks Steve319, leaks all of SLSN’s gear full perms, sells their land, returns their base, and invites everyone into the SLSN group as an owner.
:O

Heh rereading this article…SLSN used to be full of such promise. Then they broke the alliance with the AN since Mercz attacked SLSN nearly every day, knowing that weak steve319 Cao would eventually give in and surrender to Mercz and agreed to ally with them. From then on, SLSN descended more and more into the noobs they had been before they allied with the AN and Sparta. Today they are again dead, hopefully forever, as I think any more resurrections of that blatantly annoying group of kids would result in more eye rolls and nobody taking SLSN seriously. Most of SLSN is now in groups like Ordo, Mercz, 39th, Sparta, Vanguard, Alliance Navy, and Militant Collective, though I likely missed some. Let’s hope it stays that way.
